Storyline
As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music. Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. When a new student, Veronica Lodge, arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione, there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by Gerelateerde afbeeldingmaking a play for him. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale’s Queen Bee, happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows… [The CW]

My opinion
It took a ‘while’ for me to start with Riverdale (say, 4 episodes in?), but I can say that I’m so very excited that I did. It’s such an intriguing show with all the mysteries and teen drama blended together and so far, it hasn’t let me down. Somehow I get the feeling that every character is hiding something – even though I don’t know what – and that I can’t trust anyone, no matter how nice they’re acting or how likable their characters are supposed to be. If I had to compare it to another show, I’d say it’s somehow similar to Pretty Little Liars, but it hooks you in a way that PLL lost during the way; it’s new, it’s exhilarating and I just want to know who killed Jason. Yes, I’m impatient, but I honestly have no clue.

On the one hand you have Betty, a typical blonde girl next door that seems to be a goody two-shoes, but turns out to be the most thorough of them all. There is this dark side that surfaces really quickly and shows a girl that’s willing to do anything in order to find out the truth. Is this a sign that she doesn’t know, or is she simply overachieving in order to keep the attention away from herself? Then we have Archie, the footballer with a secret passion for music. He seems to be innocent and sweet, but what if he’s not who he says he is and has a dark secret that no one knows about? Maybe Victoria is guilty, acting as the new girl in town, but maybe she’s more familiar
with it then we – the viewers – know… Or are the parents, other people at Riverdale, maybe even a random person that hasn’t even been mentioned, guilty? WHO KNOWS?! There are no clues, only cliffhangers and false leads that give away a shred of information that turns out to be useless. Even Judhead can Afbeeldingsresultaat voor riverdale serie gifturn out to be the guilty one, even though he’s the one that narrates the whole show.

In short: it’s a show that you simply keep on watching and that leaves you flabbergasted every time you finish an episode, hoping for the next one to come sooner in order to give you the clues you so desperately want. In order to clear the picture up a little bit: it’s not all crime. The regular high school drama – crushes, friendships, etc. – also play a part in this series. All together it’s the perfect (if anything is ever perfect… Riverdale comes close) combination of the two: the constant mystery of Jason Blossom’s murder and the always existing teenage drama. I just hope that I made everyone excited to give this show a try!
