Over the last few years, females have been popping up in the popular movie charts. Time to break down the best of them, a great inspiration for a great movie night!

10. Princess Leia

First appearance: Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)

Last appearance: Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)

Performer(s): Carrie Fisher

Fun factCarrie Fisher wrote an actual bestselling novel Postcards from the Edge and screenplay for the film based on her writing. The book was about her drug addiction and her relationship with her mother. Fisher has managed to parlay her writing talent with a few turns at playing script doctor for a few Hollywood movies, most notable Dustin Hoffman’s Outbreak. Her appearance in Scream 3 was apparently scripted by herself.

Probably the most famous on this list, Leia Organa is a princess who rebelled against the empire and helped restore balance to the galaxy.

Bridget-Jones1

9. Bridget Jones

First appearance: Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

Last appearance: Bridget Jones’s Baby (coming in september 2016)

Perfomer(s): Renée Zellweger

Fun fact: The publishing house where Bridget works is called “Pemberley Press”. For those who haven’t read or seen “Pride And Prejudice”, this is also the name of Mr. Darcy’s estate.

Bridget is maybe the most real woman on this list, who struggles with almost everything. Really excited to see her return with Mr Darcy and her new love interest played by Patrick Dempsey!

8. Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow)

First appearance: Iron Man 2 (2010)

Last appearance:  Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Performer(s): Scarlett Johansson

Fun fact: A Black Widow movie was planned, but got cancelled due to bigger plans.

The only woman superhero who has been around for a few years, she is so cool and so talented. If I watch the Avengers I always feel the urge to take karate lessons because she is so badass at fighting.

7. Lara Croft

First appearance: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)

Last appearance: Tomb Raider (Coming in 2018, woooo)

Performer(s): Angelina Jolie, Alicia Vikander

Fun fact: Jolie did most of her own stunts. There is a scene where Lara plays with a switchblade — Jolie collects knives.

Not just because Angelina Jolie plays Lara is she cool, I played almost every Tomb Raider game growing up and the character has a special place in my heart. The movies aren’t the best, but the character is really badass and has so much potential.

6. Katniss Everdeen

First appearance: The Hunger Games (2012)

Last appearance: Mocking Jay: Part 2 (2015)

Performer(s): Jennifer Lawrence (hope it stays that way)

Fun fact: There was a swear jar on the set. Gary Ross said that half of it was contributed by Jennifer Lawrence.

The most recent heroine (As in female version of hero, I also get confused sometimes) in this list has a special place in our hearts. Even my mom cried after the first movie because it hit her so hard. Katniss is such a brave and tough girl!

5. Ellen Ripley

First appearance: Alien (1979)

Last appearance: an untitled Neill Blomkamp production in the universe of Alien (comin in 2017)

Performer(s): Sigourney Weaver

Fun fact: According to Yaphet Kotto, director Ridley Scott told him to annoy Sigourney Weaver off-camera so that there would be tension between their characters in Alien. Kotto regrets this because he really liked Weaver.

Ripley is a fascinating character who really evolves through the Alien films, in case you haven’t seen them watch the trailer below! A timeless classic and a prequel to Prometheus. (2012)

4. Vivian Ward

First appearance: Pretty Woman (1990)

Last appearance: Pretty Woman (1990)

Performer(s): Julia Roberts

Fun fact: While shooting the scene where Vivian (Julia Roberts) is laying down on the floor of Edward’s penthouse watching old I Love Lucy (1951) re-runs, in order to achieve a genuine laughter Director Garry Marshall had to tickle Roberts’ feet (out of camera range) to get her to laugh so hysterically

Vivian is one  of those characters who really stays in your head (and heart) after you watch Pretty Woman. She is funny and sweet who really doens’t know what to do with herself until she realises she loves Edward. Such a fun girl.

3. Beatrix Kiddo (The Bride)

First appearance: Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

Last appearance: Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)

Performer(s): Uma Thurman

Fun fact: Uma Thurman was offered the script to Kill Bill, and her role as “The Bride”, as a 30th Birthday present from Quentin Tarantino.

The Bride is one slaying (haha) biatch, if you know what I mean. Uma plays this so incredibly and really contributes to the level of special of this movie.

2. Dory

First appearance: Finding Nemo (2003)

Last appearance: Finding Dory (2016)

Perfomer(s): Ellen DeGeneres

Fun fact: Film makers were worried that comedian Ellen DeGeneres would not be able to perform the dramatic scene where Dory begs Marlin not to leave, so, at the end of a day of recording other scenes, they asked her to record a trial reading of the scene, with the intention that she go home with a recording of it to work on her actual performance. DeGeneres agreed, but her trial reading was so heartfelt and emotional that (apart from a few small edits) this is what was used in the final cut of Finding Nemo.

Everyone was so excited when Ellen announced that Dory would get her own movie. She is so much fun to watch, with her weird ideas and heartmelting ability to make friends.

1. Hermione Granger

First appearance: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

Last appearance: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)

Performer(s): Emma Watson

Fun fact: When she was still quite young, Emma Watson was asked in an interview how she would feel about kissing either Daniel Radcliffe or Rupert Grint, to which she replied “No chance! It’s not written in my contract!” However, by the end of the film series she ended up having to kiss both of them. Emma was actually tipped off by the author, about the possibility of the kissing becoming an eventuality, around the time they were filming the 4th film.

Most of us grew up with the movies, and us girls identified the most with Hermione. Who didn’t want to be her, I mean she’s smarter than Harry (than anyone, really). She’s so passionate about her friendships with Harry and Ron. Emma did such a good job with her!

I hope you enjoyed this list! Maybe you had an idea about which movie you’re going to watch with you girlfriends, in any case I hope it has put you in a better mood since school/work is just around the corner!
