Storyline
“Oliver Queen and his father are lost at sea when their luxury yacht sinks, apparently in a storm. His father dies, but Oliver survives for five years on an uncharted island and eventually returns home. But he wasn’t alone on the island where he learned not only how to fight and survive but also of his father’s corruption and unscrupulous business dealings. He returns to civilization a changed man, determined to put things right. He disguises himself with the hood of one of his mysterious island mentors, arms himself with a bow and sets about hunting down the men and women who have corrupted his city.” [IMDb]

My opinion
Arrow is the first show I really started to binge-watch and follow. It was kind of emotionial when I got to the last episode and had to wait for a month! The series follows Oliver Queen, a rich playboy who gets stuck on an Island near China. One episode always has the modern day scenes and the flashbacks. In the flashbacks you see Oliver struggle with the life on the island and the things he must do to survive. In the modern day he is determined to make the wrongs of his father right in their home Starling City. He creates this alternate life in where he’s a vigilante with a bow and arrow.

Slowly his team grows and you discover so much about Oliver in those 5 years he was gone. The series is full of secrets and reveals, which keeps the pace going. Olivers family business is a theme which comes back in every season (also a nice explainer why he stays so rich). His family is very important to him, especially his sister Thea. A young girl who isn’t really content with her life and still deals with the pain of losing her father and Oliver (who suffers from some serious stress when he comes back to the real world). His mother Moira he does care about, but they always seem to have a struggle about something. Another woman who has a leading role is Laurel Lance, the daughter of Captain Lance and the sister of Sarah, the woman who died on the ship Oliver was on before he got stuck on the island. Tommy Merlin, the best friend of Oliver is also a close friend of the family, he is like an emotional playboy and is thrilled that Oliver is back.

At some point Felicity Smoke will join the game and let me tell you, she is the most fun character on the show (maybe even on daily TV). She is smart, awkward and really funny. Eventually we have some man candy who joins the team, just like a good right hand to Oliver named Diggle.

The quality goes up and down, but it becomes more sophisticated with every season. But if you choose to start with this one, pay very good attention. There are events which will somehow circle back in a later season. Arrow is a wild ride and something to look forward to.
