This movie, written by Amy Schumer, did not actually draw my attention at first. It seemed kind of funny and I thought “If anyone asks me to go to this movie, sure I’ll say yes”, not really enthusiastic or anything. Maybe it’s the fact that I don’t follow any of the actors or because the same trailer was shown everytime I went to the cinema (which can be quite discouraging) but it just seemed like nothing special.
I was wrong.
This movie is 100% hilarious. There was not a single scene in this movie at which I didn’t smile. Even the sad scenes were somehow funny to me. If you have no idea what it’s about, here’s a short summary:
“Having thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy.” [IMDb]
I didn’t see the main character, Amy, as a commitment-probic career woman, though. I saw Amy as someone who was taught that monogamy was just not realistic, as shown in the trailer. She mocked her sister for a bit about her and her husband, but Amy did also have a (what she thought was a non-) exclusive relationship. Only later in the movie you realize that she has never tried an actual relationship with just one person.
Amy works for a magazine when she is assigned to write an article on a sports doctor, who is interested in Amy on a different level than just work. They go out on a date, things happen, Amy gets confused. She has never in such a relationship like this before.
The way Amy is falling in love, still staying true to herself by just staying dorky and being hilarious, is just awesome to watch. At the same time, Amy’s little sister Kim has settled with a little family. It’s funny to see the two girls, that were taught the same thing, figure it out on their own.
The characters are all not even that interesting. What makes them interesting is the way they work together. Lots of the characters in this movie are really different, which makes the conversations and ways they act around eachother really funny.
I must say that the movie, lasting 125 minutes, was a bit much for me. Maybe it was just because it finishd at 12:50 AM or because it actually could have been shorter, but it was just a bit much. The story did have a satisfying ending and I have not once regretted going. I would definitely go again.
This movie is quite simple, but it does have the plot-twists you need in order to enjoy it. I never saw the ending coming and I loved every single thing about it.
