This movie has set the bar high for the sequel that came out this year, in 2015. I loved the first movie so much that I went to see it three times and got it on DVD as soon as I could. I would love to share why I thought this movie was so great. In case you’ve forgotten what it’s even about, here’s a quick summary:

“Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school’s all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.” [IMDb]

The Barden Bella’s are introduced by showing the accident that took place a year before the actual plot of the movie and Beca’s storyline. The Bella’s are shown performing their standard medley. One of the Bella’s gets to her solo and she chokes. Not just choking, but actually taking it a step further and pukes all over the first few rows of the audience… And that’s when the movie starts.

I enjoyed all the humor in this movie. Not once did I feel like they tried too hard. I actually thought it was just enough. From puking to mermaid dancing, from laughs on screen to tears of the actors, not one emotion was out of place. This movie has a variety of feelings mixed into 112 minutes of entertainment.

As I just started to write this review, looking up some information on the background of the movie, I found out that Pitch Perfect was based on a book about actual collegiate a Capella groups and how they try to reach the top with their vocal talent. Now, obviously, the movie is not exactly the same as the book. I’d find it hard to believe that they could find a Fat Amy in real life, who is as weird and lovable as Rebel Wilson’s character.

Speaking of Rebel Wilson… She is just one of the many great people in this movie. Amongst Rebel Wilson are Elizabeth Banks (who we all know as Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games, of course), Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods), Anna Camp (True Blood), Brittany Snow (Hairspray, 2007) and many more! I appreciated all of their acting a lot. Their emotions were so real. I had the idea that all of the actors put something of themselves into their characters; they made it very real, even though the story is kind of ridiculous.

One thing I did kind of dislike about this plotline, is that it had the very cliché “dad wants me to do this but I’d rather be doing this” thing going on. I liked Beca’s story, obviously. I understand that they needed something to show how she got to the Bella’s, but I would have rather seen it happen in a different way. It kind of reminded me of “BUT DAD, THAT’S YOUR DREAM. NOT MINE!” Other than that, I absolutely loved everything about the plot.

In a nutshell:
Liked it: who doesn’t, really?!
Loved it: yes!
Re-watch: Done that, but sure!
Cinema worthy: Yesssss
