May 2021 YA Book Releases

Sun – where you at bro? It’s May, but there’s not a lot of sunshine to be found in the Netherlands at the moment. I’m not sure how it is in your country, but I need more vitamine D and a tan – if possible. Thanks! Even though the weather is not good enough to sit in your garden in the sun and read a book, there are still plenty of book coming at you this month! Here is my top 5 May 2021 YA Book Releases!

1. Realm Breaker (Realm Breaker #1) by Victoria Aveyard

Release date: May 4th, 2021
Publisher: Orion Publishing
Red Queen fans must be over the moon because their beloved author Victoria Aveyard is launching the first part of a whole new YA fantasy bookseries this month! And brace yourself, because this book will have fantasy, mysteries, strong female characters and probably some epic fight scenes as well. The reviews so far have been great (already 4.13 stars on Goodreads at the moment that I am writing this post) – and I honestly (even though I still haven’t finished the complete Red Queen series) cannot wait to get my hands on a copy! 2. Don’t Breathe a Word by Jordyn Taylor

Release date: May 18th, 2021
Publisher: HarperTeen
Personally, I loved The Paper Girl of Paris, the previous novel Jordyn Taylor wrote. So when she announced that she’d publish a new book called Don’t Breathe a Word I was immediately interested. Like The Paper Girl of ParisDon’t Breathe a Word has a dual time line. On part of the story takes places in the now, the other part of the story in 1962 during the Cold War. So original! I haven’t read a YA book that features the Cold War. As always, as things start to unravel, both stories get intertwined. Exciting! Read more…

3. Sunkissed by Kasie West

Release date: May 4th, 2021
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Somebody said about this book (in a Goodreads review): ‘If you need something to brighten your mood after surviving at new not so normal pandemic craziness and spend your time with something motivating, inspirational, lighthearted to warm your heart , help to forget your daily stress, your worries, troubles, getting urgent appointment to be vaccinated, you find the best book which will check your boxes to give you a genuine smile!’ I guess this says it all. I’m reading this one as a buddy read at the end of the month! Read more…

4. Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee

Release date: May 4th, 2021
Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers
Oh-my-god, historical fiction for young adult readers about the freaking Titanic? I am soooo here for it. ‘Seventeen-year-old British-Chinese Valora Luck has quit her job and smuggled herself aboard the Titanic with two goals in mind: to reunite with her twin brother Jamie–her only family now that both their parents are dead–and to convince a part-owner of the Ringling Brothers Circus to take the twins on as acrobats.’ This story is based on recently discovered survivors of Chinese descent. So cool! Read more…

5. Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey

Release date: May 4th, 2021
Publisher: G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers
So the main reason why I added this book to the list, is because of the hella cute cover. I mean: books on a book cover? All that pink? I would pick up this book at the store JUST for the cover. And then the storyline: Madeline works at a book store, and all is good, until a new book store opens up across her store, stealing away customers. She sets out to demolish the competition, until she finds out that her competition, Jasper, is super cute and attractive, complicating her plans. But you know what they say – all’s fair in love and (book) wars. Read more…
