Marathons: the perfect movies

Hello hello, how are your holidays? We hope you’re spending enough time in the sun, get a little bit more tanned, so you can watch some marathon-worthy movies! We have selected the most amazing, exciting and funny movies that are excellent marathon material. Be prepared to spend hours on your couche or in bed.

HP1Harry Potter

In a nutshell: We all know Harry Potter, the boy who lived. A normal boy finding out he’s a wizard, having to fight with the Dark Lord to save his friends and himself. I think it’s fair to say we all grew up with Harry, Ron and Hermione. No explaination needed there. But to really experience the I-have-to-kill-Voldy-to-stay-alive, you’ll have to watch all the movies in a row. Eat and pee breaks are okay, but nothing more. Get some Butter Beer and put down your wand to enjoy 8 (!!!) genius movies.

Order: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.

Playtime: 1199 min (19 hours and 59 minutes)

starwars4  Star Wars

In a nutshell: The iconic princess Leia and Luke Skywalker we all know, but I bet some of you don’t really know what it’s all about and a marathon about these galaxytravellers can fix that. The movies feel natural but if you think about it, that universe and the story are quite complex. The Emperor is controlling almost all of the starsystems and is ruling with an iron fist along with Darth Vader, a former Jedi who has major issues. We follow the struggle of the main characters Han Solo, princess Leia and Luke Skywalker to beat the Empire it’s rule and bring peace to the universe. Totally worth watching and a must-see.

Order: Well, you have 2 choices here. You can start with Episode IV: A New Hope, then V and VI, and then Episode I: the Phantom Menace, II, and III. That’s the way George Lucas made it and most of us watched it this way. Or you can go for choice 2: start like any normal person would think he or she must do,  with Episode I and end with VI.

Playtime: 787 min (13 hours and 7 minutes)

poster-40304-The_Hobbit-_An_Unexpected_Journey_74The Hobbit

In a nutshell: The Hobbit Trilogy is based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Even thought the novel itself is said to be a childrensbook, Peter Jackson has made a very impressive trilogy out of it. The story follows the young Bilbo Baggins goes on an adventure with the dwarves to the reclaim the lonely mountain. Off course this doesn’t go without any obstacles and a lot of orcs! In the movie a lot of famous lord of the rings characters return which is absolutely amazing, I mean who doesn’t love Gandalf and Legolas.

Order: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, The Battle of Five Armies (and to do it in the official order you’d have to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy afterwards) Oh and be sure to watch the extended editions though 😉

Playtime: 474 minutes (7 hours and 54 minutes)

639-pirates-of-the-caribbean-the-curse-of-the-black-pearl-cPirates of the Caribbean

In a nutshell: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, also known as Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann! Do I really need to explain more than this? Pirates doing piraty (is that a even a word) like searching for a treasure and fighting with their enemy. There isn’t really a lot you can say about Pirates of the Caribbean other than you’d just have to watch the movies to know if you’d like them!!! Oh and don’t forget the rum, Yo-Ho!

Order: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides (I mean if you really want to you can watch that last one, but to be honest it really isn’t that great without Orlando and Keira in it)

Playtime: 599 minutes (9 hours and 59 minutes)

IronmanposterMarvel

In a nutshell: Some of the most beautiful people on earth named Chris (Hemsworth, Evans as Thor and Captain America), Robert Downey JR (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), 2 different Hulks (Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo)  and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) as heroes in 12 movies you definitely need to see, + some additional movies that don’t necessarily any of the Avengers. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up it’s story in two phases, so far. The solo movies introduce the characters and once in a while, there’s a huge film in which they come together and show how far they’ve come as a team. A must-see marathon for everyone who likes any of these characters, since you can’t miss one!

Order: phase one: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers. Phase two: Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man

Playtime: 1501 minutes (24 hours and 59 minutes)

twilightTwilight

In a nutshell: Swooning over vampiers and werewolves: I think our generation of girls (and boys) have all gone through the phase in which they either were #TeamEdward or #TeamJacob. We were all trying to support Bella trying to choose between two very very handsome not so human-boys, but lets be honest, we just really wanted to have them for ourselves and wanted to kick Bella’s but. We all hate Twilight, but, at the same time, cannot help to cry when they finally get married and have a baby and… SPOILER ALERT! Just kidding. Anyways, Twilight is THE perfect marathon franchise because there are FIVE movies, giving us plenty of time falling in love with all the handsomes walking through Forbes.

Order: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Playtime: 606 minutes (10 hours and 6 minutes)

The_Fellowship_Of_The_RingThe Lord of the Rings

In a nutshell: When you name the Hobbit, you also have to name The Lord of the Rings. Funny thing is that TLotR was filmed BEFORE The Hobbit was filmed, eventhough the story takes place proir TLotR. So to have an ULTIMATE marathon, we advice you to first watch all of The Hobbit movies and after that all of the TLotR movies. You will have the full Middle Earh experience. We think Gandalf would approve of that.

Order: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King.

Playtime: 558 minutes (9 hours and 18 minutes)
