6X Netflix movies based on YA books

Movies based on YA books have been all the hype since Twilight and The Hunger Games. There was a slight dip after the Divergent-series failed in cinemas, but it seems like the hype is back and we have Netflix to thank for that. However, we do see a shift in genre. Dystopian and fantasy books: move over! Here are the contemporaries…

All the Bright Places

All the Bright Places (2015) is a praised YA book written by Jennifer Niven and tells the story of Theodore Finch and Violet Markey. This book discusses mental health, romance and friendship. As of today – February 28th – this movie can be found on Netflix!

Dumplin

Dumplin (2015) by Julie Murphy tells the story of self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed ‘Dumplin’) and has a former beauty queen as a mom. The most horrifying things she will ever do: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant. It has been on Netflix since December 7th 2018, so give it a try if you haven’t already seen it!

The Kissing Booth

The Kissing Booth (2012) by Beth Reekles is about Rochelle Evens (popular, but never been kissed) and Noah Flynn (badass and a total player). When Rochelle – Elle – starts a kissing booth for the school’s Spring Carnival, she kisses Noah and her world is turned upside down. Will she get her happily ever after? This movie has been a huge hit ever since its release on May 11th in 2018.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2014) by Jenny Han has been one of the biggest successes of Netflix book adaptations. It tells the story of Lara Jean, who’s sister accidentaly sends out all her secret love letters to her crushes. Will something good come out of this? Both this movie, and the sequel To All the Boys 2: P.S. I Still love You are on Netflix!

Let it Snow (2008) is written by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle, tells a story of friendship, romance, and above all: Christmas! Do I need to say more? The movie hit Netflix on November 8th, so can watch it now!
