We are back at the hospital! This episode is mainly about Penny’s first day and Jackson and April working together! Let’s get started.

On her first day, Penny feels as uncomfortable as the rest. Meredith, who previously told her not to talk to her, now decides to try to give her a chance, as it is what Derek would tell her. Amelia, on the other hand, disagrees and thinks she should get fired for her history. When Meredith first gives her a chance, she tells Penny to talk her through a surgery. When Penny misses one thing, Meredith gets angry and annoyed and can’t seem to give her any more learning opportunities.

I feel like Amelia and Meredith represent both sides of the fandom right now, in a way. Amelia wants her fired, like the fans that want her off the show. Meredith tries to give her a chance but seems to still be way too angry. To be honest, personally, I think we should give Penny a chance. Callie seems to talk great of her, because she had no clue that she was one of Derek’s doctors. This could have happened to anyone and the fact that she then happens to get a job at Grey Sloan Memorial is all coincidence.

On another storyline, April brings in a little boy who has tumors growing all over his hands. He asks Jackson to remove them and give the boy back the use of his hands. The tumors, howerver, have grown way bigger than the pictures showed that April gave him. He first suggests amputation of both hands but then calls in Callie to help him try to figure out a way to make it work. This honestly has to refer to Japril’s marriage in some way. April keeps fighting for the boy(/marriage) and tries to get Jackson to fight as well. Eventually, he gives in. After surgery, the boy wakes up and is ecstatic to see his hands with actual fingers! This is a fight won. Do you think there is still an opportunity for Japril? I do.

Richard and Maggie are working on two patients together who seem to be old friends of Richard. At some point the patient/his friend accuses Richard of not being able to judge it well because he never had kids. Richard denies it at first, but after a conversation with Maggie he realizes that he can tell people and he is proud of her. So he tells him he has a daughter and he is proud to know her.

We have reached the end of the episode! Japril hug, intimate hug, to be exact. I’m all in for this.

As Callie and Penny sit outside the hospital, Penny admits that she might not want to do this anymore. Much to her surprise, she gets a text from Meredith that she wants her for the rest of the week. Think Meredith is finally able to rise? I hope she does. What will Amelia think of this?!
