5 Movies about the apocalypse

To get everyone warmed up about the next big apocalypse movie, The 5th Wave, I thought I’d list five other movies in which the world is ending and all that, because why not?! (Get it? Five waves, five movies?)

1tumblr_nkjirkzLb31ta689oo3_250. This Is The End – as the title suggests, the world is ending. Duh. This movie was released in 2013, starring Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen, James Franco and many more familiar faces as… themselves. This movie was based on a short comedy Baruchel and Rogen also starred in, titled “Jay and Seth versus the Apocalypse”. Although nothing alike, they’re both about the apocalypse, have famous people and are supposed to be funny. If you want to see these two in action but don’t feel like watching a full length movie, you can watch the short here.

2. Mad Max: Fury Road – although not the first movie in the Mad Max franchise, it is, to this generation, the most well-known one. The first Mad Max movie came out in 1979, starring Mel Gibson. If you’re up for it, you can start there, although you don’t need to if you want to understand the plot of the latest Mad Max film.

3. The Maze Runner – haven’t we all seen it by now? Even though the first movie doesn’t show the apocalypse, the second film, The Scorch Trials, takes place in quite the apocalyptic setting. These movies, based on the books with the same titles, written by James Dashner, are highly recommended as a warm-up to The 5th Wave, considering they’re both in the same category. If you’re not completely sure whether you should watch them or not, you can read the review for the first movie here and for the second movie, The Scorch Trials, you can go on over here to read our review.

4. Terminator Genisys – the 2015 movie that had every generation jumping up and down. This is the fifth movie in the Terminator franchise. It shows a future in which the machines have taken over (which results in an apocalypse o course). Kyle Reese gets sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor, portrayed by Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke. For this one I would recommend watching at least three out of four previous Terminator movies, you can leave out the fourth one, because it doesn’t have Arnold Schwarzenegger in it, so it’s just a waste of time. Obviously.

5. X-Men: Days of Future Past – can you believe there have been seven X-Men movies already?! Well anyways, one x-men-days-future-pastof those, the one released in 2014, is set in half-future, half-past. It starts out in the future, where Sentinels, machines, have taken over and an apocalypse is happening (sound familiar?). Mutants and humans are fighting against them but odds aren’t in their favour. So, they decide to send someone back in time in order to fix it before it ever happens. I recommend at least watching X-Men: First Class before seeing this one although not completely necessary to understand the plot.
