Spoilers: As usual there are some spoilers, though I won’t spoil the ending.
It’s been a while I read The Elite… right after The Selection though! I read both books before The One was released, so I was really psyched after The Selection that I at least had 1 more sequel to read while I was in Greece. The cover is, once again, mesmerizing. It fits great in the story, Alaska looks really fierce and more royal than she did on the cover of The Selection and I guess that fits perfectly with her development as a character.
In the beginning of The Elite, I was totally irritated by Aspen. He was standing in between Maxon and America right away. And I felt like he really caused some tension between the two of them, while America had enough things on her mind without Aspen showing up every once in a while. I was rooting for Maxon. A LOT.
Later on, I started to dislike America. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know what I mean. Both guys were at her feet, but she just didn’t choose one of them. It wasn’t fair for Aspen and hell it wasn’t fair for Maxon. And America really started to get on my nerve. I did really like her as a character and I really thought the deserved the crown but she didn’t act very grown up when it came to the boys.
And after hating both Aspen and America, I hated Maxon too. I mean: how crazy does it get when you hate all three main characters in a book? I LOVED THE BOOK, don’t get me wrong. But when Maxon started to kiss random girls, I wanted to slap him in the face. One way or another, it was America’s fault too. But please, Maxon, why kiss so many girls? You’re obviously playing with their feelings and you know you can get away with it. It’s really asshole-ish of him. He’s playing games all the time, promising America the world and a second later he’s kissing Celeste. Wow. Dude. I’m sure Queen Amberly raised you up like that?
So the story goes on, the triangle thing is still there, and everybody is still fighting for Maxon’s love. Or his power. Or the crown. Or the fame. Whatever. They just want him and everything that comes with him.
Marlee really is the sweetest person ever. I just had to say that.
I just loved the fact that we – as a read – got to learn so much about the history of Iléa! I loved it! And of course it is much more complicated than everybody thought at first. It gave the story more dept. Another layer of people, stories and undeniable problems.
I write down, on paper while in Greece, this: FUCK THE KING. I don’t think I have to say more, do I?
The ending of The Elite was amazing and exciting and I couldn’t stop reading! It was a better ending than the ending of The Selection! So, thumbs up Kiera Cass!
Overall, I think The Selection was more exciting than The Selection, it got me more IRRITATED than The Selection, but it also made me love the world of The Selection even more. Kiera did a great job. Usually the second book in a series is ‘worse’ than the first book (I say this because I’ve experienced it) but not in this case. So I think this book is GREAT and everybody should read it.
