While we’re all still very sad about the fact that McDreamy has left the show, there are things to look forward to on season 12 of ABS’s Grey’s Anatomy!
In the history of Grey’s Anatomy-feelsgiving moments, the final episodes of season 11 may have been the most intense ones. With some important faces of the show leaving, dealing with grief and others trying to keep it all together, this definitely either gets even or even beats the season 8 season finale “Flight”.
But enough about the past, let’s try to get our feels together and see what we can expect from season 12. From this point on, this post will contain spoilers. Don’t read further if you want to keep your feels fresh and not know what will happen at all!
Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy tells us what to expect in season 12 in this interview, along with Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Caterina Scorsone (Amelia Shepherd) and Kelly McReary (Maggie Pierce);
Rhimes brings the fun back to the show – During one of the season 12 table reads, she has never heard the entire room laugh this much. It felt like the humour and lightness was very natural and there is some humour to be found in Meredith’s situation as a widow.
Wait, how long after?! – The show will pick up 3 months after the season 11 finale. Not much to say about this, just thought you should know.
Back to the mother-house! – Meredith has moved back into her mother’s old house and Maggie and Amelia are the ones to join her, this time. Sounds like an awkward deal, her sister-in-law and her… kind of half-sister, but it’s apparently a ‘fascinating dynamic’, other than when she lived with George and Izzie, according to Rhimes.
Watch out, Calzona shippers… – Callie and Arizona will have new love interests, which should be exciting. I, myself, can’t see any better combination than Callie and Arizona together, but will admit that I’ve become curious to see what Rhimes herself finds so exciting about this new pairing. Also, she said Callie will be dating a woman after the Calzona split.
Will Meredith find love? – Maybe, that’s not the focus in season 12. McDreamy will not be replaced, that’s for sure. What Meredith’s storyline will be, is up to what feels right. Both Pompeo and Rhimes feel like there is more for Meredith to be dealing with than just romance.
What about Amelia? – Amelia will be redefining herself, as Derek was an important part of her life. Derek was motivation for her to be better, Derek was a father figure, he was the one person that was there during the tragic loss of their father when they were young. Without Derek, she’s going to have to find a way to keep going on her own.
Everything has shifted – as season 11 was probably the darkest season ever, they had no choice but to get lighter on this one. After all the tragedy, there had to be a laugh. And that laugh came! Scorsone says that all the characters are going through a renaissance, and that the show is too. This sounds kind of exciting, right?
Enough with the spoilers. As it is time for season 12 to arrive, I feel we should just watch and see what the above all means to the show and how this will affect the characters on the screen.
Grey’s Anatomy season 12 premieres on the 24th of September.
