Oh. My. God. My initial thought after watching “The Scorch Trials”, my god that shit was intense. I have so many things that I thought were good/frustrating/sad which I can’t tell you because I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys but off course I will give you my thoughts on the movie. I do have to warn you that there could be some spoilers but off course I wouldn’t give away the big ones, I’m not that kind of person 😉 Also if you haven’t seen the first movie yet, you might consider reading my review of that one here, before you read this one.

In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all. IMDB

If you’ve read this book you understand when I say that it is very frustrating to keep your mind off of the book when watching this movie because it is so very different. Though it’s different in a good way, which I normally wouldn’t say. The director chose to go with the main storyline of the book but with his own adaption of the story. So if you want the full experience I suggest that you read the books afterward so that you can compare because it is different. Anyway, after the escaping the maze in the first movie, they are led to believe they are safe from WICKED now. Thomas still has his doubts about the place where they are and doesn’t trust Janson for a bit. A guy named Aris from another maze sees this from Thomas and together they are going to investigate what is going on behind closed doors.

So I have to say something about the fact that it was in 3D which is a bit frustrating to me. I didn’t think the 3D effects were that amazing to be honest. Yes, off course you see more dept and you do have an immersive experience with the 3D put, but it just wasn’t that great. For instance if you would compare it to Jurassic World that was just amazingly done in 3D and all the camera angles were right in 3D. I think they could have done a bit more to exaggerate the massiveness of the world that they were in. I do have to admit that some shots were just absolutely amazing and extraordinary beautiful, even though the world really isn’t.

Another thing that caught my eye, and this was because we did the marathon so the first movie first and after that the prèmiere of the second one, is that everything is in the same color family. I’ll explain what I mean. In the first movie they are in the maze which has a lot of greenery like grass, woods etc around them. What stood out is that also their clothing is in the same color family, so they have the same tones. They were all dressed in greyisch, greenisch and brown clothes. In the second movie this color scheme has changed because they are in the scorch now. They are surrounded by a lot of desert and so the clothes are beige/brownisch and other colors from that color scheme. I thought this was very cool and this made the shots even more beautiful.

I can’t really say a lot about the cast because I already did that in the review off the first movie. I loved seeing Aiden Gillen in this movie because he just knows how to portray the devious man in charge and I love that about him. I mean the way he plays Little Finger in the tv show Game of Thrones is just absolutely amazing. There are off course some new characters introduced like Brenda and Jorge but I don’t really have a lot to say about that other than that they were okay and nothing special. Funny thing we didn’t know is that Katherine McNamara has a tiny role in this movie and that made us totally excited about the tv show Shadowhunters that will be airing next year.

So have you already seen the movie? And what did you think? Also Nanouk and I went to the marathon, so the first “The Maze Runner” and second the premiere of “The Scorch Trials”, and made a little vlog about it so you can see our first reaction about the movie, so why don’t you watch it here.

In a nutshell:
Liked it:
Hell Yeah!!
Loved it:
Loved it!!!
Re-watch it:
Yeah I really liked this movie and would want to see it without the 3D.
Cinema worthy:
Definitely movies for the big screen!
