Nina Dobrev is leaving TVD

Admit it, we all have loved TVD from the pilot. We have watched the series in agony. Is Elena going to choose Stefan or Damon? I’ve been rooting for Stefan. But yeah. I haven’t seen anything of an episode since season 5 because I got sidetracked, didn’t like it anymore etc. I started re-watching TVD recently and I fell in love with it all over again. And now… Nina Dobrev announced she’s leaving the TVD family. Excuse while I’m sobbing in a corner… in the dark… on the North Pole. WHAT? No more Elena in Mystic Falls? What will EVER become of The Vampire Diaries when the main character leaves? And why is Nina stopping? Well… she has a good reason: this is the end of her journey. She’s thinking about her future. And she wrote a wonderful letter about the reasons why she’s stopping.

Dearest TVD Family,

I’ve just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I’ll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.

There’s more to come before we wrap this up, and I promise you’ll get to hear all about my experiences over the next month as we approach the season finale (I have given an exclusive interview for the June issue of SELF Magazine that I am excited for you to see!), but until then I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert’s life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her — and to my work family — as I move on to the next chapter of my life. I want to share this goodbye with all of you (this weekend’s pictures were just the beginning). You, the wonderful fandom who gave more love, support and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago, when a young Degrassi girl from Canada showed up in LA to audition for ‘that Twilight TV show.’ ;-) I love you all. Fasten your seatbelts. If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.

Love, Nina

There has been a lot of speculation last weekend about Nina Dobrev leaving or not. But it’s final now. And this letter makes me damn scared of season 6. Like I said: I’m a bit behind. I’m trying to catch up before the season finale, so I can feel the pain of the last episode together with the whole TVD fandom.

Nina, good luck on your journey. You deserve the best!

What do you guys think what will happen to The Vampire Diaries once Nina Dobrev left? And how do think Elena is going to leave Mystic Falls?

  1. I really enjoyed the first seasons and I used to like Elena a lot, but I have to say I don’t like her that much anymore. I did really love TVD but I felt like the story got a bit old and I haven’t watched the latest episodes. I did start to like Caroline more and more, so if TVD would continue and focus more on her I might start watching it again!

    • Elena WAS great, yes, and I totally agree with you, even though I haven’t seen the latest season. Caroline is awesome, bad-ass and kick-ass, but honest and real too. We’ll see what happens next. (P.s. I love Nina Dobrev, nothing against her, just against her character).
