I’m actually kinda new with book blogs: I’ve been loving them since the day I found out about their existence, but I’ve never been a die hard bookblog reader or writer until this year. Well; die hard is not what I’d like to call myself. Lover comes closer, because I need to stop checking Twitter and Facebook every second of the day, so I have more free time. Anyways, I wanted to participate in this End of Year Book Survey. I’ve never done this before, so… here we go!
1. Best book you read in 2013?
I think this is gonna be a whole series: Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant! I love these books with all my heart.
2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Is it weird to also have Allegiant here? Well: the ending explains it all. Yep.
3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2013?
Wow, this is a hard one. I always do a lot of research on a book before I buy it. But I think I know what book will be here: the Legend series. My friend who works at a bookshop told me about Marie Lu but I never expected the books to be SO good.
4. Book you read in 2013 that you recommended to people most in 2013?
I think I’m going to say Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson… It got to me, more than I thought it would. And it is so real and raw, but also about something people are still biased about.
5. Best series you discovered in 2013?
Oh, dear Lord. I’m just going to show you the pictures, okay?
7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?
I’m kinda ashamed of this, but I think I’ve only read one English book that’s a new genre for me in 2013. (I did read some ‘out of my comfort zones’ for my Dutch classes; I’m Dutch, but that wasn’t one free will base). It’s a thriller – Alex Cross -, by James Patterson. And I was surprised by how much I like it!
d it again. Also, Mockingjay. Not very fair to put it here, because I read it at the end of 2012, but I’m still including it because I’m rereading it in 2014!
Definitely Teardrop by Lauren Kate. THIS COVER IS SO PRETTY.
Geez, this one is hard. I think “Teardrop” by Lauren Kate, because she combined real life teenage problems with fantasy and wrote it down beautifully.
13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2013?
Definitely Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book really got to me.
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2013 to finally read?
Divergent. Again. Damn, this book really means a lot to me. But: there are a lot of book I’ve bought in the last few days of 2013, but still haven’t read yet. Including most of John Green’s books. So I’ll include his books in my 2014 Survey and I’ll just put Divergent here.
15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2013?
I bought “Staying Strong: 365 Days A Year” by Demi Lovato in the second week of December. The thing with this book is that you read one page every day. It’s with dates, so I decided to start on January 1st. But I accidentally read the first page. And that’s also the best thing ever, so here we go:
I have no clue. Honestly.
17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers!
ALLEGIANT ALL THE WAY. END SCENE. GOD DAMN IT.
Also, Shadows by Ilsa J. Bick: the second part in the Ashes trilogy. This book had literally a cliffhanger.
18. Favorite Relationship From A Book You Read In 2013 (be it romantic, friendship, etc).
Ash and Meghan from “The Iron Fey” series by Julie Kagawa. SHIP THEM FOREVER.
19. Favorite Book You Read in 2013 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
Teardrop by Lauren Kate! Read Fallen and Torment earlier.
20. Best Book You Read In 2013 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else:
The Legend series by Marie Lu. My friend – told you before – said I HAD to read the series. I did. I fell in love.
How long do you have? I sobbed a lot this year.
I really don’t know. I probably overlooked it too.
Looking Ahead…
1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2013 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2014?
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. No doubt.
2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2014 (non-debut)?
I will make a list of books that are on my shelf, ready to be read. And also a list of books that I still have to buy that are already or not published. Stay tuned!
Pff, I wish I could answer this question.
Pure trilogy by Julianna Baggott, Burn.
Also The Selection trilogy by Kiera Cass, The One. But I haven’t even read any of the books.
(There’s also Monsters by Ilsa J. Bick, but that ending is already released).
5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging In 2014?
Read more books (like: 20-40 books). And also: write more reviews 🙂
Geez, that was a hard blog to write. It always makes me wanna cry to say: Oh, this book was the best. Oh, this writer is the best. I love ALL of my books, so it hurts a bit to label them. I hope you liked this post, and please comment or recommend!
