The 5th Wave movie: What do we already know?

First of all, I’d be handy to know that “The 5th Wave” is an adaptation of Rick Yancey’s novel “The 5th Wave”. It’s an YA Dystopian book about the young Cassie who’s witnessing aliens taking over the world.

The Book

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother–or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.” [Goodreads]”

I’ve read the book and I gotta say: AMAZING! My review will be online this Tuesday. But since we’re talking about the movie, we should discuss whether or not the adaptation will be faithful to the book. And from what I’ve read and seen so far, I think it’s gonna be pretty close.

The Movie

“Four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope – if she can only trust him.” [IMDb]

Chloë Graze Moretz is playing the character of Cassie, which is a great choice I think. I believe she can really make come Cassie alive. I love Cassie and I love Chloë. So I think it’s a good choice. The screenplay is done by Susannah Grant (In Her Shoes, Charlotte’s Web), Akiva Goldman (I Am Legend, Transformers), Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, The Amazing Spiderman 2) and Rick Yancey himself. As far as I can tell, all of these screenwriters have been doing a great job in the past, so hopefully they succeeded in bringing “The 5th Wave” to life. And speaking of that, here’s the final trailer!

So… what do you think? Ready for the movie? Have you read the book yet?

Read it before you see it:
